Rankmath is one of the most well-known and popular WordPress plugins for SEO with over 1 million downloads and 4.9 stars rating. In this detailed RankMath SEO review, let’s see all the important features of RankMath, its pricing, and how it competes against its rivals such as Yoast and All In One SEO.
This article will mainly focus on the review of Rank Math SEO. However, you can find a detailed guide on how to set it up here.
RankMath SEO: An Overview
RankMath SEO is a complete WordPress SEO plugin that combines all the best practices of on-site SEO in one package to help you easily optimize your website for search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. It’s a great option for novices and experts alike, with user-friendly features to help you improve your rankings and tons of advanced options for experienced users.
RankMath SEO was first launched in 2018 and quickly grew to be one of the best WordPress plugins for SEO. So it is relatively a new SEO plugin but has proven itself to be a great plugin to optimize WordPress sites for search engines.
One thing that I like most about RankMath is that most of the important features are available for free when compared to those features that are only available in the paid version of its competitors like Yoast SEO and All In One SEO.
RankMath SEO features
RankMath SEO has tons of features, literally, the plugin contains 80+ features that help you to optimize and rank higher on SERP(Search engine ranking pages). However, I’m not going to go through all the features but only the important features that are worth mentioning.
I’m dividing this into two sections. The one will focus on the features that make RankMath SEO different from other SEO plugins and tools, that is the features that are unique to the RankMath (as of now) and In the second section, I’ll go over some common SEO features that can be found in other SEO plugins but are important.
Even though, the common features can be found on other SEO plugins, RankMath do provide them with more functionality and options.
Features that are unique to RankMath SEO
As you all know, RankMath SEO is one of the most popular and most downloaded SEO plugins on WordPress respiratory. One reason that made this plugin so popular in a short time is the features that the plugin offers which simply cannot be found on other SEO plugins. So it’s important to point out those abilities and features to help you understand RankMath SEO better.
Content AI

The first feature that grabs my attention is the Content AI. It is an artificial intelligence that gives you suggestions based on the keyword you enter to optimize your blog post for better SERP rankings. There are several other standalone tools that can help you with this, but a tool that is directly integrated with your WordPress editor makes your job easier.
Once you enter a keyword, the content AI will show you the following.
- Related keywords, questions, and links that can be included.
- Each related keyword will include its CPC, volume, and ad competitions.
- Suggested word count, heading count, link count, and even media count.
Content AI is available on the free plan with 5 credits. You can either upgrade to a paid plan for more credits or buy the credits separately.

Easy/Advanced mode

Unlike other SEO plugins, RankMath separates the options inside the dashboard for new users and advanced users. There is a small switch that toggles between easy and advanced mode.
In easy mode, the plugin will optimize your site’s SEO for the best standard. You just want to tweak some basic info if you really want to.
In Advanced Mode, you get full control over the plugin and have the ability to adjust each and every option that the plugin offers.
These help you to control the SEO aspects of your site completely or just the basics.

Advanced Analytics

RankMath SEO provides a solid integration with Google analytics and search console and provides various helpful data to analyze the performance of your site.
Few other plugins like All in One SEO do provide integration with these Google services, however, they don’t provide the data as much as RankMath does.
There are a ton of metrics to help you know how your site is performing but do remember that only the basic data are available on the free version.
Availability – Free (with limits)
Google Analytics 4 Integration
Recently Google announced that they will be sunsetting their universal analytics and only Google analytics 4 will be available. The change will happen from July 1, 2023.
Google Analytics 4 is nothing but an advanced version of universal analytics with more data and machine learning built in.
RankMath offers a thorough integration with Google Analytics 4 and pulls the data from Google to show up on your dashboard. This will help you to understand your site better and take the necessary steps to improve it.
Moreover, you can view the analytics and search performance of individual posts or pages.
At present, there is no other SEO plugin that supports Google Analytics 4 and RankMath SEO is the first to do so.
Overall, the RankMath analytics contains the following metrics
- Rank Tracker
- Optimization score
- Overall report with total keywords, average position, search traffic, and impressions
- Winning and losing keywords
- Winning and losing posts
- Filters to include or exclude respective metrics
- Data Sorting
- RankMath Badges
- and more
Availability – Pro
Post-Analytics

RankMath SEO can provide you with an in-depth SEO report for each and every post individually. This is extremely useful to check the performance of each post separately and take necessary action to improve them.
On the post analytics dashboard, the content score and the SEO score of the posts will be displayed with all the essential data. Moreover, the plugin will also give you suggestions to improve the score.
The dashboard contains the following
- Content and SEO score
- Page Speed (desktop and mobile)
- Primary keyword and schema type of the post
- Current index status (whether the post is indexed by Google)
- Suggestions to improve the post
- Ranking keywords
- Important Google search consoles data such as search impressions, traffic, clicks, CTR, and average position
- Top 5 winning and losing keywords of the post
Email Reports
It’s very important to stay updated about your site and its performance on SERP. Rankmath will send you monthly SEO reports of your analytics. These reports will provide you with information on your website’s progress. As for the free plan, you can opt-in for the monthly reports with limited statistics, however, you can upgrade the plan to reduce the frequency to 15 or 7 with more statistics based on the plan.
The Report includes
- Total Impressions, clicks, and keywords
- Average search position
- Top 5 winning and losing keywords
- Top 5 winning and losing posts
- and more

Rank Tracker

SEO is all about ranking your website on the first page of search results. But that’s not the only job to do so. You have to keep track of your ranking. That’s where RankMath’s rank tracker comes in.
The rank tracker is used to track your position in Google search results over time. You can see how well you are doing from day to day on SERP and make necessary changes in site content or link-building strategy to improve the performance.
RankMath provides a built-in tracker that keeps track of your site’s performance on search engines. You can view all the metrics right from your dashboard (or via email reports).
Moreover, in the rank tracker, you can monitor your top 5 winning or losing keywords or posts.

Client Management

Client management lets you manage multiple sites under one dashboard. This comes in handy if you have many sites, especially for agencies.
When you have multiple sites, it’s kind of hard to check the stats for each and every site. You typically need to visit and log in to each of them to gain access to the insights but here, at RankMath, you can view insights of all the sites from a single dashboard.
To gain access to the insights, the business plan is required (we will talk about the pricing later in this post). This will not only let you view the insights but also allows you to set few limits for individual sites from the dashboard.
You can set keyword limits and content AI credits for individual sites to ensure that you never run out of the allotted quota. Some sites may require a larger number of keywords to track and a greater amount of content AI credits, whereas others may require only a few. You can easily manage these with client management.

Light Weight
This might not be considered a feature but is worth mentioning. RankMath is the lightest SEO plugin available as of now. Being the lightest helps in improving the overall performance of your site. This is extremely important if you’re in a budget hosting that typically lacks memory and speed. I would always recommend you choose the best hosting but even those hosting on the cheapest plan might lack the resources.
So having RankMath can technically improve your site speed and performance, not on a huge difference but it does.

RankMath SEO Features
Let’s talk about what you can expect from RankMath SEO. Rankmath has numerous features and options to help you set up and optimize your site for search engines. We are going to see some of the important and life-changing ones.
Role Manager

The role manager allows an administrator to assign a role to one or more users with custom abilities. This is extremely useful if you have multiple users and want to allocate custom SEO roles to them.
This basically takes WordPress’s different user roles such as editor, contributor, and author, and allows you (admin) to provide a custom set of abilities to each of them.
For example, you can only enable access to content AI for authors.

SEO Audit

SEO audits are a very important part of any SEO strategy and should be conducted on a regular basis.
It helps you to examine and determine how well your website will perform in organic search results and find whether there are any areas that need improvement. The goal of an SEO audit is to identify on-page SEO opportunities for improving ranking on SERP.
RankMath has a built-in audit that provides you with an in-depth analysis of your site’s SEO health and will provide you a score out of 100. The audit results are presented in a clear and easy-to-understand format, so you can make informed decisions about how to improve your site’s SEO.
As per RankMath’s documentation, the tool uses 40 factors to analyze a site and gives recommendations based on it.
Availability – Free
Instant Indexing

Instant Indexing is one of the important features. It allows you to add your website’s pages directly into google’s index or any other search engines (but not guaranteed) without having to wait for them to crawl your site first.
With Instant Indexing, you can start ranking your website in search engine results as quickly as possible once you create it.
There are plenty of 3rd party plugins to get the job done but having them integrated with the core SEO plugin makes it easier to use the functionality.
Do note that, as per Google, the instant indexing feature is only intended for news sites and should be avoided by others.
Redirection Manager

Redirection Manager is a powerful tool that helps you create and manage 30X redirects. Redirects are crucial if you would like to change the URL of your pages. This tool comes in handy for the situation.
With Redirection manager, you can
- set 301,302,307 URL redirects.
- set 401, 451 management code
- set auto redirects

Custom schema types

With RankMath SEO, you can choose between 24 schema types for your articles or blog posts. But if you’d like to cover a specific type of content that is not covered by the schema types available, you can create custom schema types with more than 840 schema types.
This ensures that your blog post type will never be missing a schema type.
To choose the custom schema types, RankMath SEO provides a schema builder that will help you to build custom schema types that suits your article or blog posts.

Google Trend Integration

Google trend is a tool that can help you get an idea about how often a particular search term is being searched. You can also see how a particular search query is trending over time.
The tool can be used to determine the popularity of a search term, as well as its geographic distribution. Google Trends makes it easier for marketers and SEOs to track their competition and stay on top of their game.
RankMath has a built-in integration with Google Trend allowing you to access the Google Trend data right from your dashboard.
This feature comes with a pro plan but you can use Google Trends for free if you access them directly. This can be considered as a little add-on to the pro version.

Local SEO
Local SEO is an important part of the search engine optimization process. It helps local businesses rank higher on Google Maps and in local search results, which can lead to more traffic, leads and sales.
If you’re a business owner, you know how important it is to have an online presence. You need to be visible on Google because that’s where people are looking for your product or service. And since most people use Google Maps when they want to find something nearby, it also makes sense to focus on local SEO.
RankMath SEO has a huge number of settings and options to optimize your local online presence on SERP. Most important options are available for free while a few others can only be used when a pro subscription is bought.
Below are some of the settings that RankMath offers for local SEO
- Name
- Site URL
- Logo
- Address
- Phone number
- Opening hours
- Price range
- Google maps
- and more

Elementor and Divi Integration

RankMath integrates with Elementor and Divi to give control of your SEO aspects right from the bulders. RankMath is the first SEO plugin to have these kinds of integration but later on, other plugins also implemented this feature.
Similar to Gutenberg builder, you can control all the essential aspects of your SEO from Elementor and Divi builder.
For instance, you can do the following on the builder itself.
- Edit meta snippets
- Set a focus keyword
- Analyze the current SEO of the page with recommendations
- Set and configure schema
Availability – Free
Bulk Edits

The bulk edit option lets you set options such as index, no index, and more on multiple posts at once. This may not seem to be important but trust me, it’s a lifesaver if you have tons of posts and pages that need their SEO data to be edited.
With the RankMath SEO bulk editor, you can do the following at once for multiple posts or pages.
- Set Index or no index
- Set follow or no follow
- Remove custom canonical URL
- Set redirection to a particular URL with 30X.
- Remove redirection
- Set Schema to none or default schema type
- Perform instant indexing

Google News Sitemap
A sitemap is a list of URLs that tell search engines about your content to crawl and index for ranking. Just like that, google news can be included with a sitemap that helps in ranking a site on Google news.
Like the original sitemap, the google news Sitemap is not mandatory to get your site listed on Google News, but it may boost crawlability.
There are plenty of plugins to carry this job but having it built-in into an SEO plugin is a nice little addition.
Availability – Pro
Version Rollback

WordPress plugins sometimes after an update, tend to lack integration with other plugins. This sometimes happens because of the version change.
For example, a recent WordPress update breaks my theme, and the post editor doesn’t work as it should. I roll back to the previous version of WordPress with a 3rd party plugin to temporarily use the post editor until my theme officially releases an update to fix the issue. And of course, they did but it took some time.
Just like that, if something goes wrong with the latest version of RankMath, you can easily roll back to the previous version with a built-in version controller.
This may not seem to be a big deal, but you’ll see how valuable this feature is when something goes wrong on your site.

Link Management
Link building is one of the effective methods to rank higher on search engines. RankMath offers a link builder that helps you with adding links to your site.
This is extremely helpful for SEO since internal linking is one of the important SEO aspects.
Internal linking is a technique of linking between pages of your website. It is one of the most effective ways to improve the ranking of a website on search engines.
It helps search engines to understand your website structure, how the pages are related to each other and what is important for users.
Technically, it allows search engines to understand your site’s structure better and crawl them more efficiently.
However, adding links to each page and keywords by yourself can be a little difficult task. To help you with that, RankMath provides a linking builder that helps you add links to particular keywords.
Just enter the keywords and the destination URL. The Link builder will place the destination URL in all of the posts and pages containing the included keywords. You can also choose to exclude pages, posts, comments, or products.
Availability – Pro
User Interface
The user interface of RankMath is very clean and minimal without confusing the users. RankMath made it easy to have only the necessary options and disable the unwanted ones for avoiding confusion or saving up some memory.
On the dashboard, there are various modules such as 404 monitor, analytics, redirection, and more which can be turned on and off. The main role of the modules is to control that feature across your site. Turning off the modules will turn off the respective options across your sites.

For example, if you turn off the redirection module, it will disable the redirection feature on the plugin and the options for redirection can no longer be found in the settings until the module is turned on again.
Moreover, there are two types of Interfaces on the RankMath, one is the easy one and the other is the advanced one. I already mentioned in the unique feature section that RankMath can switch dashboards and options for new users and advanced users.
While toggling between the modes, the dashboard and settings are changed with more modules and options to choose from.
Under the Rankmath settings on the WordPress sidebar, you can find settings for general, sitemap, role manager, and other options that the plugin could offer. Head over to them will further open the respective settings. This is very common for most of the plugins and you can expect the same from RankMath.
Customer Support
Customer support is a key component of any software tool or plugin. It’s the bridge between the creator and the users, and it’s how you build a community.
The user may don’t know how to do something or they may be new to the tool and need an explanation on how to use it. Every time when a user needs help regarding the tool, customer support should be ready to assist them.
So having a good customer is very important for an online tool and Rankmath provides them exceptionally.
RankMath offers solid 24 X 7 support throughout the year. You can either open a support ticket on their forum or contact them directly via mail.
The reply will be received within a few others regarding your query.
Additionally, RankMath has a bunch of documentation to help you resolve your issue by yourself.
3rd Party Service Integrations
RankMath can integrate with several 3rd party services. These integrations can greatly improve the productivity of the plugin. I have already mentioned a few integrations in the feature section, but there are also a few more that are worth mentioning. RankMath supports and integrates with the following services.
- Google Analytics 4
- Google Search Console
- Google Adsense
- Google Trends
- Elementor builder
- Divi builder
- Social Media Accounts
Most of them are google services and once integrated with them, RankMath makes use of it and provides you with reports and data pulled from Google. Elementor and Divi builder integration lets you take control over your SEO aspects right from the builder dashboard. Finally, you can connect your social media accounts to your website and make it display on Google search results when your brand is searched.
RankMath SEO pricing
RankMath SEO offers three paid plans to choose from. Pro, Business, and Agency. The pro plan is sufficient for most of the users. The business and agency plan is best suited for agencies or users who have multiple websites.
The pricing is as follows:
RankMath Pro Plan: $59/year
RankMath Business Plan: $199/year
RankMath Agency Plan: $499/year
As you can see above, the paid plans start from $59/year and can go all the way up to $499/year. For a normal user, who would like to use the premium features, the pro plan which is priced at $59 is sufficient. The plans that are above “Pro” are intended for large-traffic websites or agencies managing multiple websites.
Content AI credits
With all the paid plans, content AI credits are included but those credits can also be bought separately, even from the free version.
Below is the pricing of the content AI credits.
50 credits: $19
150 credits: $49
450 credits: $99
These credits have a one-year shelf life, which means they will become unusable after a year. As I mentioned before, these credits can be bought and used with the free plan. Moreover, this works for the paid plans too. When any of the paid plan’s credits get used, you can buy extra credits to keep your content AI working.
RankMath SEO free vs Paid
One thing I like most about RankMath is the number of features that it offers in the free version. No other SEO plugin provides this much of features on the free plan. And this is also an important reason for the popularity and quick growth of the plugin.
The free version includes all the main features you need to rank your website on Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex.
However, there are still three paid plans to choose from but there aren’t many differences between them. If you pay for the basic plan, you mostly get all the features that the plugin could possibly offer.
Below are some of the major differences between the plans that I think you should be aware of when choosing a plan, or if you’d like to upgrade to a premium version.

RankMath SEO vs the competitors
As you all know, RankMath is not the only player in the industry. There are a few other options to choose from such as Yoast, All in one SEO, and SEO Press. In this comparison, we are going to compare RankMath SEO with Yoast SEO and All in One SEO since both the plugins are quite popular and have more than 1 million downloads.
Just like RankMath SEO, both the other plugins have a free version as well as the paid version. To make things simple, I will divide this comparison into two sections, free and paid. We’ll compare all the free versions of each plugin separately, and all the paid versions separately. This will make it easier for you to understand who offers more features, especially on the free version.
RankMath SEO vs Yoast SEO vs All In One SEO
Yoast SEO is the most popular and downloaded SEO plugin on WordPress with over 5 million downloads. Yoast was launched in 2010 which was 8 years before RankMath launched. With all these years, Yoast keeps on improving its ability and features. However, RankMath which was launched at a much later date can compete with Yoast and beats it in various aspects.
Free Versions
In the below comparison table, let’s see who offers more features and abilities for free. Most users, especially beginners, will only choose a free version of the plugin, so it should have essential features.
As SEO plugins, all of these will provide the features that are required to rank your site on SERP and if you want more flexibility, feature, and control over your SEO aspects, you have to opt in for the paid versions.
Comparatively, RankMath offers more options and abilities than the other two plugins.
Features | RankMath SEO | Yoast | All In One SEO |
AI suggestions (Content AI) | Yes | No | No |
Google Analytics 4 and Google Trends integration | Yes | No | No |

Paid Versions
Now, let’s compare the premium versions of these plugins. RankMath offers three paid plans to choose from, All In One SEO offers four, and Yoast SEO only has one.
As you can see in the table above, most of the features that RankMath offers are absent in Yoast SEO and AIOSEO, however, AIO does offer some related features but not up to the point as RankMath.
Among these three SEO plugins, AIO has the cheapest plan to start which is $49 per year and can go all the way to $299 per year followed by RankMath which starts at $59 per year. However, Yoast has only one plan called “Premium” which is priced at $99 per year.
RankMath is priced in the middle compared to these other two plugins. There is only a $10 price difference between RankMath SEO and AIOSEO but, for that $10, you get way more features and options for your money with RankMath than you do with AIOSEO.
Features | Free | Pro | Business | Agency |

Rankmath SEO Installation and Setup
When you install the plugin, you will go through a setup wizard which helps you configure the plugin in just a few steps. The wizard will be containing a total of the 9-step processes to completely set up your site with RankMath. However, when the easy mode is chosen, the process will be trimmed down to 3 steps.

- Getting started by choosing the mode: easy, advanced, or custom
The first step is to choose a mode that is suitable for you. You can either choose easy, advanced, or custom.
If you’re a newbie and don’t know anything about SEO, it’s better to get started with easy mode. In this mode, Rankmath will take care of all the essential for you and you will only be presented with 2 steps which is site details and linking to google analytics. Advanced mode contains more options and settings to choose while the custom mode is for those who have already used RankMath and want to import the previous settings. - Import data from the previous SEO plugin
If you have already used Yoast SEO, All-in-One SEO, or SEO press, you can easily import the settings and options from that plugin with a few clicks. - Site details
Essential details like the type of the site, a logo, and social media image. - Linking Google Analytics
This step allows you to connect the RankMath with your google analytics account. - Configuring sitemaps
You can turn the site map on or off with this step. Moreover, you can select which one should be included with the sitemap such as posts, pages, and forms. - Optimization
Some minor tweaks to get your site on right track. This step includes options to turn on or off the following: Open links in a new window, no-follow external links, and no index empty category and tag archives. - Role manager
If you have multiple users and want to restrict certain RankMath abilities depending on the role, you can do it right from here. - 404 and redirection
You turn on the 404 monitors and set up 30X redirection. - Schema markup
Schema types for posts, pages, portfolios, theme builders, forms, and landing pages can be set here.
Once you complete all the steps, you will be taken to the dashboard. However, you can access the wizard at any time.
The setup wizard is sufficient for configuring your site for search engines but you could always go through each option and settings on the dashboard to completely optimize your site.
Final Verdict
We have come to the final section of the RankMath SEO review,
“does RankMath really worth it and should you be using it as your SEO plugin?“
Of course, the plugin is worth using. The free version includes tons of features. Though when paid, it is a bank-for-buck deal.
The main reason to use RankMath SEO is that it eliminates the need for other SEO tools. Once you pay for RankMath, it includes all the essentials and you don’t have to opt-in for other tools.
It’s one package full of SEO tools.
If you’re looking for a lightweight yet full-featured plugin that should help make your life as a WordPress user a bit easier, you can’t go wrong with RankMath SEO. It has all the features you need to get started with improving your search engine rankings, and it’s fast, easy to use, and lightweight.
And as much as I have talked about the positive aspects of this plugin, you may be wondering why there are no negatives mentioned.
It’s really simple, I don’t really find anything that I feel like a negative or drawback when using the plugin.
As the final takeaway, the “Rankmath SEO plugin is easy enough for beginners but powerful enough for advanced users“.
